Chinese Surnames 1

Here are some Chinese surnames. The accent marks are there so you can see the difference in names. For example is "梦" is mèng and "蒙" is mēng though they can both be casually transcribed as just meng. Chinese is tonal so those accent marks make all the difference in the meaning, spelling and pronunciation. The translations are based on Mandarin Chinese tones and using Simplified Chinese. If you want Traditional Chinese characters, you can copy and paste a character into the dictionary at this link: Click Here. If there is a traditional character for it, it will show up in the search. You can also look up the meaning of the characters there as well.

Korean Names 1

I'm going to start posting Korean names. Note that Korean has several ways of being transcribed. I'm only using one way but that does not mean there are other translations. For example, the Korean name Lee is technically transcribed as I. I only know how to transcribe like this so I'm sorry.

93 Year Old Marvin E. Schur Freezes To Death In Michigan

On January 17, 2009 in Bay City, Michigan, 93 year old Marvin E. Schur froze to death in his home. The indoor temperature of his house was 32 degrees. There was ice on the windows when his body was discovered by his neighbor George Pauwels Jr. His power was limited due to over $1,000 in upaid electric bills and the limit "maxed out" sometime during the freezing temperatures which lead Marvin to die slowly of hypothermia alone in his home. This is really sick. Yes, you should pay your bills but there should be laws against turning power off when the temperature drops below a certain level. Or since they have special devices they install to limit power, they should invent something to allow heaters to still work or something. Every year, I read about at least one or two people dying because of this. It's really just a waste. Bay City Manager Robert Belleman says that neighbors need to keep and eye on neighbors and go through proper channels when they believe something is wrong. That's ridiculous. Not everyone has neighbors to check on them. Marvin was a widow and had no children. He didn't deserve to die alone simply because he didn't have the money to pay for his bills. If the temperature drops below 60 degrees, power companies should not be able to cut off power regardless. What if Marvin had had a grandchild with him? The child would have died too on top of seeing their grandfather dead. But I guess since Marvin didn't have any family, he's low priority as there is no family to sue for damages. People like Marvin fall into a low place on the ladder and it's a shame. Just because you've lived for over 90 years doesn't mean you deserve to die alone while freezing to death.
