Japanese Lesson 3

Topic: Aru/Arimasu
Aru/Arimasu is used to state the existence of something in a certain place. It is only used with things that are not living (pretty much everything that does not fall into the category of animals, bugs and people). If you want to talk about a living thing, you use Iru/Imasu which I'll cover in another lesson. Aru is the plain form and Arimasu is the polite form.

1. コンピューターはデスクの上にある。
Konpyu-ta- wa desuku no ue ni aru.
The computer is on top of the desk.

2. マイクの電子辞書は理沙のベッドの下にある。
Maiku no denshi jisho wa Risa no beddo no shita ni aru.
Mike's electronic dictionary is under Risa's bed.

3. 東京に高いビルはある。
Toukyou ni takai biru wa aru.
There are tall buildings in Tokyo.

4. ニューヨークにエンパイアステートビルディングがある。
Nyu-yo-ku ni enpaiasute-tobirudingu ga aru.
The Empire State Building is in New York.

5. 私の部屋にあなたの赤いカップがある。
Watashi no heya ni anata no akai kappu ga aru.
Your red cup is in my room.

6. 壁にフォトグラフはあります。
Kabe ni fotogurafu wa arimasu.
The photograph is on the wall.

7. グラスは机の上にあります。
Gurasu wa tsukue no ue ni arimasu.
The glass is on top of the desk.

8. 本は可憐のバックパックの中にあります。
Hon wa Karen no bakkupakku no naka ni arimasu.
The book is inside Karen's backpack.

9. 兼のピクチャーはテレビの後ろにあります。
Ken no pikucha- wa terebi no ushiro ni arimasu.
Ken's picture is behind the TV.

10. 竜のバッグは車の中にあります。
Ryuu no baggu wa kuruma no naka ni arimasu.
Ryuu's bag is inside the car.

*This is an adjective. Only use this as an adjective. The Kanji could be spelled or read differently when it is used in a different context.

Rika no kuroi doresu wa todana ni aru.
”Rika's black dress is in the closet.”
2. タオルはバスルームにある。
Taoru wa basuru-mu ni aru.
”The towel is in the bathroom.”
3. 森子のカーはビールの前にある。
Moriko no ka- wa biru no mae ni aru.
”Moriko's car is in the front of the building.”
4. 私の鞄はオフィスにある。
Watashi no kaban wa ofisu ni aru.
”My briefcase is in the office.”
5. 典のショップは玲のハウスの横にある。
Nori no shoppu wa Rei no hausu no yoko ni aru.
”Nori's shop is beside Rei's house.”
6. トムの靴は竜の靴の左側にあります。
Tomu no kutsu wa Ryuu no kutsu no hidarigawa ni arimasu.
”Tom's shoes are on the left side of Ryuu's shoes.”
7. 彼の漫画はひとみの部屋にあります。
Kare no manga wa Hitomi no heya ni arimasu.
”His manga is in Hitomi's room.”
8. チーズはキャビネットの中にあります。
Chi-zu wa kyabinetto no naka ni arimasu.
"The cheese is inside the cabinet."
9. 雄一の林檎はアメリカにあります。
Yuuichi no ringo wa amerika ni arimasu.
”Yuuichi's apple is in America.”
10. 彼女の好きななパンツはインドにあります。
Kanojo no sukina pantsu wa indo ni arimasu.
”Her favorite pants are in India.”
