Japanese Lesson 4

Topic: Iru/ImasuIru/Imasu is used to state the extistence of a living thing (ie humans, animals, bugs) in a certain location. It is the same thing as Aru/Arimasu seen in Lesson 3 but Aru/Arimasu is used for non-animate things (ie chairs, clothes, electronics). Iru is the plain form and Imasu is the formal form.

1. トムは黄色の車の中にいる。
Tomu wa kiirono kuruma no naka ni iru.
Tom is inside the car.

2. 学校にまことがいる。
Gakkou ni Makoto ga iru.Makoto is at school.

3. ハリーの部屋に鳥はいる。
Hari- no heya ni Tori wa iru.
Tori is in Harry's room.

4. 公園に子供たちはいる。
Kouen ni kodomotachi wa iru.
The children are at the park.

5. 金魚鉢に魚はいる。
Kingyobachi ni sakana wa iru.
The fish is in the fishbowl.

6. あなたはビルの中にいます。
Anata wa biru no naka ni imasu.
Y ou are inside the building.

7. ペットホップにあなたのニューのペットがいます。
Pettoshoppu ni anata no nyu-no petto ga imasu.
Your new pet is at the pet shop.

8. ケージに緑の鳥はいます。
Ke-ji ni midorino tori wa imasu.
The green bird is in the cage.

9. 海にイルカはいます。
Umi ni iruka wa imasu.
The dolphin is in the ocean.

10. ビーチに鴎はいます。
Bi-chi ni kamome wa imasu.
There is a seagull at the beach.

*These are adjectives.
**Kodomotachi is the plural form of children. Do not put tachi on words to make them plural. Tachi/dachi works on a few select words.

Hosupitaru ni Yuri wa iru.
”Yuri is at the hospital.”
2. 栞は病院の前にいる。
Shiori wa byouin no mae ni iru.
”Shiori is in the front of the hospital.”
3. トムはどこにいるか。
Tomu wa doko ni iru ka.
”Where is Tom?”
4. ジョイはレストランの後ろにいる。
Joi wa resutoran no ushiro ni iru.
"Joy is behind the restaurant."
5. 美香は外にいる。Mika wa soto ni iru.
”Mika is outside.”
6. 犬はビルの右側にいます。
Inu wa biru no migigawa ni imasu.
”The dog is on the right side of the building.”
7. ジェームズはティアの横にいます。
Je-muzu wa Tia no yoko ni imasu.
”James is next to Tia.”
8. 紀雄はストリートの左側にいます。
Norio wa sutori-to no hidarigawa ni imasu.
”Norio is on the the left side of the street.”
9. トムは東京にいます。
Tomu wa toukyou ni imasu.
”Tom is in Tokyo.”
10. 里香は鳥のアパートメントにいます。
Rika wa Tori no apa-tomento ni imasu.
”Rika is at Tori's apartment.”
